Review

Vasco's at Hilton lives up to its name. Enter the buffet-style restaurant, and your journey begins. You move through various stations - the Appetizer Station, the Pasta Station, the Sushi Station and the Cheese Station to name a few. There's a pleasant grandeur to the place, as befitting the brand name, but what strikes one apart from this is the impression of space. Vasco's is huge and airy. It can comfortably seat a vast number of patrons without giving the impression of being cluttered, and without the diners having the feeling of others invading their personal space. Steps lead up to a elevated private dining area, which has been appropriately dubbed 'The Madras Table' because it looks like at table from below. The floor to ceiling window offers a pulsating view of the city. Begin the journey at the Appetizer Section - sample the lavish selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian starters to set the mood for the whole trip. The Chicken Tikka and the Fish Tikka with mustard are well worth a try. For the main course, the 'hot section' counter offers a delectable fusion of world cuisines - halt at Italy with the ricotta ravioli, make a stop-over in China with the Stir-fried Beef, and dip into other culinary treasure houses with dishes like Baby Corn and Mushroom in Hoisin Sauce and the Grilled Tenderloin. If you're already homesick for India, don't miss out on the makai palak. The sushi comes in a typical platter, with a variety of dips, which are very nice. Each counter has a chef, and you can watch the food being made. The waiters are well-informed. On Sundays, there's a brunch on offer, with the added attraction of a special corner for children. While the adults can unwind over a leisurely meal after a hectic week of moving and shaking, the kids are kept entertained and occupied by a series of games and other activities. Last stop the Dessert Spot. The heavenly Tepanyaki, served in elegant long-stemmed glasses, and the outstanding hazelnut brulee are only two of the delectable choices available, making the 'traveller' regret that he's reached journey's end.
