It's been a year since the Italian restaurant La Terrazza has been opened at the Hyatt. They have come out with a new menu which relies on more simple preparations of some classics and gets them spot-on. The staff at La Terrazza is young and well informed, but happily not overzealous. Much credit must be given to the executive chef Hemant Mehta, now an old hand at opening restaurants at Hyatts in India. As you sit at the table at La Terrazza (which by the way derives its name from the large outdoor terrace where you could also sit), a plate of deliciously hot crusty bread with freshly made (basil) pesto comes to the table; both the pesto and the bread are amazing. Die-hard Italian food lovers would be happy to see the Carpaccio and for vegetarians there are Eggplant Rolls stuffed with rice and sun-dried tomatoes, and the warming soup of Borlotti and Cannellini Beans. More familiar on the menu would be the lasagne, Spaghetti con Aglio and Olio e Peperoncino. And the Linguine with baby clams. For the main course, the Lamb Rack is quite outstanding. The thin-crust pizza is pretty much what you would expect; no superlatives there. Desserts are pretty standard (Tiramisu, Chocolate Tart, Panna Cotta). And frankly, after three Italian courses, I didn't really have much inclination for anything sweet. However, I did have a spoonful of the deliciously different Rosemary and Honey Ice Cream. Chefs are sensitive to allergens and will cater gluten-free menus. La Terrazza has a good selection of speciality coffees, versions of Irish coffee, grappas and liqueurs. The ambience at La Terrazza is quite casual really and the indoor, outdoorsy feel is suited to Pune's laid-back gentle folk who identify more with familiarity than with formal dining. Sunday brunch is a great deal with free-flowing Prosecco and a choice from both this restaurant and the all-day dining next door. Prices are five-star (not the same as Mumbai or Delhi though) but so is the top-notch quality and service.
