Review

Alfama - name inspired by the Bohemian town square of Lisbon in Portugal - is described as the chef's speciality restaurant and is easily one of the best world cuisine restaurants in Goa. Their interiors are well-crafted in subdued tones and the style of food presentation dramatic and impressive. The menu changes a bit every season. You can sample local delicacies from 'A Taste of Goa' and we suggest you try the Prawn Balchao and Xec Xec, both spicy preparations which go well with the Fish Curry Rice, or the Chicken Cafreal and Xacutti, which are served as a combo, with the drier Cafreal as kebab and the Xacutti as gravy. Balchao Mushroom is for vegetarians and comes with unique flavours. For a taste of South India, try the Rasam of Chicken. They also serve the Caldo Verde, a Portuguese-style vegetarian soup with spinach and Crab Meat Cocktail with avocado sauce. Their succulent Lobster Medallions are not to be missed either. There are some excellent European-style dishes like a Brandy Scented Prawn Bisque, Orange Glazed Duck and lots of seafood dishes to choose from. We recommend the Chargrilled Garlic Rockfish Kebab and Baked Sea Crabs to go with your drinks. They also serve a Mediterranean salad of Platterof Hummus, Babaganoush, Tabouleh and Pitta bread. For a taste of North India, go for the Curried Tandoori Raan - grilled leg of lamb. They also have Live Fado or sad love songs in Portuguese entertaining diners on some days.
