Melt the butter and fry the carrots, onion and potatoes until they are soft.
Add 450 ml water, lentils, salt, pepper and bay leaf and simmer for 30 minutes.
Whisk the flour with a little of the milk and gradually blend in the rest. Stir well into the soup until it thickens. Simmer for 5 minutes then stir in 75 gm cheese.
Pour into soup bowls and garnish with the remaining cheese.
Serve the vegetable soup hot.
