Simmer the peas in a pan for 6-7 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.
Heat the oil in a frying pan and add the butter, onion, chili powder, garlic and asafetida.
Fry the mixture for 5 minutes or until the onions are soft.
Mix in the garam masala, cumin and coriander. Mix for a minute.
Then add the peas. Stir for a further 3 minutes.
And the mushy peas are ready to be served
