Croque Madame

A classic French snack! 'Croque' means crunchy and 'Madame' is a term used to address women in French. This ham and cheese sandwich topped with a fried egg is a great breakfast or late night snack option.

Ingredients

  • 3 pieces white bread

    2 slices ham

    Mustard sauce

    2 Tbsp Gruyere cheese, grated

    2 tsp butter (To pan fry sandwich) + 1/2 tsp butter (To cook egg)

    1 egg

Method

Spread mustard sauce on one side of all breads slices.

Place ham on 2 slices. Sprinkle some cheese over these.

Place the ham-cheese bread slices over one another, cover with the third slice.

Pan fry the sandwich with some butter.

In another pan add butter. Break an egg. Fry the egg.

Place the 'sunny side up' egg on the ham and cheese sandwich.

Serve.
