Eat these foods to cut out unwanted fat According to me, losing weight is much more than just consuming fewer calories to bring about a drop on the weighing scale. For a lot of people, it is essential to safeguard themselves against the growing menace of lifestyle diseases.

We all know that one of the first rules of losing weight is to ditch 'fatty foods' and switch to a 'healthy diet'. Nutritionists believe that weight loss does not simply mean scrapping fatty foods, it requires you to bring about a balance by actually sneaking certain foods in your diet.

These are foods that -
•             Cut the fat
•             Curb untimely cravings
•             Have a high satiety value, i.e keeps you full for a longer time

Here's a checklist of six foods that are not just granny's home remedies chewed and digested through generations; they come with a scientific back up. Some foods have a high thermogenic effect, a process by which the body generates heat that accelerates metabolism, scorching away the calories, while others contain compounds and chemicals that are effective fat burners.

Honey: This may come as a big surprise but honey converts the unwanted fat deposits into the energy which is used for normal functions. For best results, mix a spoonful of honey in warm water to consume early morning & before hitting the bed at night. A word of caution - Honey tastes sweeter than sugar so use sparingly (half of the quantity of sugar you'd use).

Curry Leaves: Besides adorning our meals with its fragrance, curry leaves are known to flush out toxins and the extra fats.

Apples: This forbidden fruit of Eden is the doctor's pet. Apples are packed with pectin, a chemical that combines with water and limits the amount of fats absorbed by the body cells. Apples are also loaded with fibre, the consumption of which keeps you full for a longer time. Bite into an apple to curb your cravings into the bargain.

Garlic: Known as the stinking rose, garlic holds numerous good-for-you properties. Apart from the thermogenic effect it causes, garlic contains a sulphuric compound called allicin that reduces cholesterol and burns the ugly fats.

Chillies: These can be so fierce that they melt away the stubborn fat! Chillies contain capsaicin that produces heat in our body by using up the carbohydrates and burning the calories. Another benefit chillies claim to have is that they help reduce your appetite. (Nothing works better than sealing your lips!)

Whole Grains: These include - jowar, bajra, ragi, oats etc. Oats contain a soluble fibre called beta-glucan which is known to absorb the fats. It digests slowly and therefore leaves you with a feeling of being full for a longer time. Millets boost bile secretions that destroy undesirable fats. The body uses up a lot of calories to break down and digest these grains.
